SNEAK PEEK / My First Styled Wedding Shoot

Did yesterday actually happen? If it wasn’t for the pictures I have to prove it, I would think that I dreamt it all up. It was a dream. For years already. I finally decided to make my dream a reality and so I started planning my ideal wedding. I’m a lover of all things detailed and unique and personal.

Before I go on, I thought I should explain what a Styled Wedding Shoot is because I’ve had a lot of people look at me with huge question marks on their faces when I told them what I was doing! A styled wedding shoot is a shoot put together by multiple vendors in the wedding industry to basically showcase their talents and skills in their particular area of expertise. I was the Creative Director for this shoot since it was my idea and my vision that brought it to life so I basically put together an inspiration board of the type and feel of shoot that I wanted to create and all the vendors went off that inspiration to create their magical pieces. It’s kind of a mini “fake” wedding. You set up a table that looks like a reception table, and you can have a cake and whatever else you want to incorporate, and of course a bride and groom.

I’ve been wanting to do a styled shoot for a long time because I wanted to photograph a wedding that fully integrates all the things I love about weddings. And I want this shoot to be an inspiration to my potential future clients of what you can do with your wedding. A lot of my shoot had DIY details and decor, which instantly adds so much more character and uniqueness to your wedding. As part of my new wedding packages I offer to help brides with the creative aspect of their wedding. I want to help brides bring their vision to life, just like my vision for this shoot came to life yesterday. It was beyond rewarding, and that’s how you should feel at the end of your wedding day. That all your hard work and creativity and time and effort truly represented who you and your fiancee are and that you leave for your honeymoon fully satisfied and fulfilled.

I need to quickly say a massively huge thank you to my team. Wow. I’ve said it to you guys numerous times already, but I’ll say it again. THANK YOU!!!! I’m still blown away at all of your willingness to be involved with this shoot, with my dream, and to make it what it was. Your excitement for it only heightened my excitement for it. And the outcome far exceeded my expectations. So, thank you. From the deepest part of my heart I am ever so grateful for you all!! Thank you Andrea (flowers), Carmen (jewellery/accessories), Jessica (furniture/decor), Melissa (cake), Marilisa (planning/decor), Patty (gown), Charrisse (make-up), Jenn (hair), Nikki (invitations/paper goods), and Melody and Eric (models). And a special thanks to Abby, my mom, and my sister for your input, advice, sewing, and gluing! The shoot would not have been what it was without all of you!

I’m only leaving you with one Sneak Peek today, and that’s of my beautiful bride. I didn’t want to give away anything else from the shoot until the final post (which will hopefully be soon!) Enjoy!

ONE FRAME / 05.06.2012 – The Mosso

The Mosso. I have no idea if I spelled that correctly (Dad? How’d I do?) But that’s how we pronounce it. In case you’ve missed my mention of it before, my parents grew up in South America and they drink a tea down there called Mate. It’s a green tea that you put into a bull’s horn (the Guampa) and use a straw (the Bombilla) to drink the water. If you use hot water then it’s Mate. If you use cold water then it’s Terere. (I prefer Terere because I can’t handle really hot drinks and prefer to still feel my tongue after drinking something and not burning it!) Both are a communal beverage. One Guampa, multiple people. It gets passed around. The person that does the water pouring is called the Mosso.

When I was little I was giving a mini Bombilla and kept it all these years. I did have a mini Guampa too but that got lost somewhere. Cheyenne was playing outside this weekend and wanted to pour and drink water so I dug out the ol’ mini Bombilla and she Mosso-ed herself a billion servings of Terere, sans the tea. It was really cute. She looked like a pro. My ancestors would be proud.

Tamara and her hubby are expecting their first baby in just a few weeks! Unfortunately her husband wasn’t able to join us for the shoot, but we decided to still take some photos of her lovely bump in case baby came early and we couldn’t reschedule the shoot in time! Plus, the weather was outrageous this weekend (in a good way!) so we had to take advantage of it! (Can you tell I just love pregnant bellies?!)

EMILY & BRENDAN / Blackie Spit Park Sunset Anniversary Shoot

At the end of last year I had a contest for all of my 2011 wedding couples. Whoever had the most “likes” on their wedding post on my blog would win an Anniversary shoot with me. Everyone got to work, building up their likes, but two couples outshone everyone else pretty quick! There was some pretty fierce competition going on between Tim and Larissa and Emily and Brendan. One day one of them was winning, the next day the other one was winning. By the last day Emily and Brendan were in the lead, but in the last hour Tim and Larissa took lead and won by 50 likes! I knew that if I had been Emily and Brendan, I’d be so bummed to have lost by such a small amount! And I knew that both couples both in a ton of effort to get those likes so I offered an anniversary session to Emily and Brendan as well! It’s kind of neat that these two won and they were my first two weddings in BC last year, so they both celebrated their one year anniversaries last month!

We had fun planning this shoot. It started from one image we saw and from there they added their own personal touch and together we ended up with this and I love it! We finally had a day of no rain so we headed to Crescent Beach and got some cozy pictures at sunset…

It’s been about a year since I was meant to photograph this lovely lady. She won a giveaway that Weddings In BC was giving away with the launch of their website in BC. Finally we were able to get together, unfortunately sans her husband, to get some photos done! Tamara and her husband are expecting their first baby in June and it was great to be able to get a few shots of her as a mother-in-waiting. Here’s one frame from our shoot today! I found this location while driving around doing some location scouting one day and it turned out to be an amazing spot!

SNEAK PEEK / Ryoko & Brendan’s Wedding

Last night I had the privilege of photographing Ryoko and Brendan’s wedding. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time! Ryoko first contacted me about photographing their wedding back in 2010! The day ended up being perfect… clear skies, warm air, just perfect! The bridal party was a blast to work with, and quite hilarious as the speeches proved.

Emily and I had been planning for this shoot for weeks already! We had to reschedule a few times because the weather just wasn’t on our side! Finally tonight we were able to meet up and do their anniversary shoot! It ended up being a beautiful evening and a beautiful shoot celebrating one year of marriage for Emily and Brendan! If you were on my blog yesterday you would know that a year ago I photographed Tim and Larissa’s wedding. Well, just a couple weeks ago they added a little son to their family! Since Tim and Larissa won the giveaway for an Anniversary Shoot with me by having the wedding blog post with the most likes, we got to incorporate little Calvin and make it a newborn session! It’s really neat to see my clients go from engaged, to married, to having a family of their own.

So, enough about that. Let’s see some pictures of this new little family of three! Here’s Calvin…

Happy Anniversary, Tim & Larissa!

Another Anniversary is being celebrated today! Tim and Larissa got married a year ago already, and just last weekend I was able to photograph them again as a family of 3! I love watching my couples reach new milestones and adding little ones to their lives!
